The Low Down on Genesis' Darryl Stuermer - an interview by Ed Friedland

When Genesis' founding guitarist departed in 1977, dozens of highly qualified applicants lined up for the job - but it was Milwaukee native Darryl Stuermer who nailed the audition and got the gig. Rick is also featured in a new film “CSNY Déjà Vu,” which will play at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 26, its closing night. Lakland Creates Burning Earth Bass Guitar for Spinal Tap's Derick Smalls

Spinal Tap is reuniting to play the Live Earth concert on July 7 in London and its bassist, Derek Smalls (aka Harry Shearer), tapped Lakland to create a special 'burning earth' bass for the occasion. The bass, which began life as a standard 55-94 model, sports SIX Chi-Sonic pickups. To further cement the Chicago connection, Lakland again commissioned artist Gary Weidner to create the bass' stunning imagery, which is designed to underscore the message and mission of the Live Earth event. And Winner of the Pickup Naming Contest Is...

Bob Hitson, of Austin, Texas! Congratulations Bob!
Hitson was the first of FIVE people to come up with the name "Chi-Sonic" for the new line of pickups.
This is what he said:

"When Dan called me, I was totally amazed! I'm extremely proud and surprised my name was chosen for this pickup line. It's an honor for me to be associated with the Lakland company, and their excellent products. I look forward to seeing and hearing Lakland Chi-Sonic equipped basses for a long time to come. Thanks to Dan and everyone at Lakland for this opportunity."

Hitson will receive the first Skyline Decade made with (his choice of) the new Chi-Sonic pickups (single coil Alnico or NeoDymium or NeoDymium Humbuckers). But that's not all. The four other people who came up with the name will each receive six sets of Lakland strings (tapered especially for Lakland basses). Thanks to everyone for participating in this contest and for your tremendous support and loyalty toward the Lakland product. We truly appreciate it.

Dan Lakin and Joe Osborn Featured on Basscast

Podcasts anyone? I'm hooked from NPR programs to golf instruction! The best podcast find as far as I'm concerned is Basscast. Basscast originates is Australia and is hosted bi-weekly by David Burgess. The podcast usually features a new release and then an older release (or Player) in a section called "Back in Time". I have listened to all the podcasts (25 in all) and have learned much and been entertained. I highly recommend going back and getting caught up! I contacted David about the podcast and he invited me and Joe Osborn to co-host a episode. Check it out we are in the latest podcast - #25. Visit the Site or View Joe's Top 40 Hits List (pdf).
